Cremation Memorial Options

After a loved one passes on, it is natural to want to create a memorial in their honor. With traditional burial and rites, a memorial is usually a headstone or marker placed at the grave. When a loved one chooses cremation though, sometimes the memorial is not so straight forward.

Cremation is becoming increasingly popular. In Fact, in the United States it has increased dramatically in the last twenty five years. Nationally over 34% of final arrangements are cremations. Locally, Muskegon County statistics show 54% of the those who passed away in 2010 were cremated.

Families that choose cremation do not differ from families who choose traditional burial in the need to memorialize their loved one. The grieving process is the same regardless of the deceased final arrangements. the survivor will want to create a lasting memorial to honor the deceased. The bereaved of the those who have opted to be cremated have several options available for final placement of remains and memorial.

URNS - Cremation urns are available in a broad range of designs and materials. Urns can be crafted from marble, metals and bronze. An urn can be kept and displayed or it can be a simple box that is buried at the cemetery. There are even biodegradable paper urns for those who desired a water burial or a "green" alternative. Even a more personal option such as tackle box can be used.

Scattering Ashes - For those who chose to have the remains scattered or divided between family members, a scattering stone may be a good choice to memorialize the loved one. This is a simple stone or bronze plaque that can be inscribed and placed in a garden to commemorate the life of a loved one.

Cremorials - These memorials serve to house the remains and of a loved one and placed as a final resting place.

With cremation becoming the more popular form of final disposition, many memorials are made to house or "inter" the cremated remains either for placement on a grave or on your personal property. For those who wish to be interred, cremation memorials are available in many different forms. Standard memorials can be made to create a chamber within. Columbariums with single, companion or family niches are available in many colors, shapes and sizes. For families who chose memorial interment we carry a wide selection of columbariums, cremorials, memorials, cored benches, natural rocks, and garden stones.

Alternative tributes are becoming more popular. With more families choosing cremation, we have developed ways of paying an everlasting tribute for home use, cemetery or where remains are scattered. A beautiful legacy for future generations, these unique memorials provide a celebration of family heritage.
